[Adept Zero] Adepticon Musings and Pictures

Beginning of Day 2
Greetings, one and all. It's your humble servant Zero with a lot of photos and a bit of rambling concerning Adepticon. I know it's a bit late to be talking about it, but by now you've read the dozens of battle reports, watched the various on the scene video clips, and listened to the podcasts. You may have even checked out the finals via the excellent quality stream. All of these things are great, but they don't really give the flavor of being there, I think.

[Adept Zero] Counterfeit miniatures review, Part II

Not a single one of these is from Apple.
The upside is that no one committed suicide while making these.
As an addendum to RedScorps' review of knockoff Chinese recasts, I'd like to share my own take on it.

What I will NOT go over is the basic moral, legal and ethical issues surrounding counterfeit and knockoff goods. This has been discussed ad nauseum in many posts all over the Net. I will not share my personal beliefs on the issue because 1) no one cares and 2) REALLY no one cares.

[Adept Zero] The case for Adepticon

I just wanted to chime in here for a moment to talk to you about Adepticon.

You get to see incredible stuff like this.

Even if you don't have a ticket, if you live within driving distance, you should go.

All the player slots are filled, and I believe the openings for the team tourney will be gone by the weekend. You should still go.

This may be the year that all of the painting and modeling seminars will also be completely sold out. You should still go.

All the pics in this post were takem by me.

Why?

  1. There's something about seeing that many people playing 40k at once that's just awesome. I'll admit, on Sunday afternoon, it sort of takes on that locker room ambience, but seeing people's display boards makes you feel like you belong to something bigger than your own little FLGS.
  2. The models are awesome, and I'm not just talking about the CMON contestants and the dioramas like you see above by Mr. Sabol. Almost every army I saw there, even the ones that were painted poorly, gave me unique perspectives I never would have gathered had I not seen it in person.
  3. You get to put a face to the avatars. I had a really great conversation with Goatboy last year, and I met at least a dozen folks that I knew from the message boards.
  4. Most vendors were offering about 30% off, plus there is no sales tax at the event.
  5. Forgeworld. Enough said.
  6. You get to see people playing FoW, which is always awesome.
  7. All those awesome miniatures at the CMoN store? Yep, they're there.
  8. The GW Battle Bunker is about a 1/2 mile away.
  9. You might meet me, and you might get Zero swag. Stay tuned!
Is it worth going without a ticket to anything if you live far away? Probably not. But if you are anywhere within 60 miles, I'd say some check it out!

[Adept Zero] TLDR, or You are not going to like this.

I wasn’t sure that I even wanted to write this, but with the basic tenor of the discussions over GW’s recent business decisions getting so strident, I think it’s important for someone, for better or worse, to chime in with a different perspective. I’m pretty sure this may become both my most popular (infamous?) post and the one that makes me a pariah in the 40k metaverse.

[Adept Zero] Speed Painting with Dipping

Care for a dip? Hello, dear readers. Zeronyne here again from Hive Zero. Tonight, I'm going to show you a common technique to get horde armies to the tabletop as quickly as possible. There are dozens of dipping tutorials out on the Interwebs, and they are uniformly (and surprisingly) great, but I thought I'd show you how to dip with the absolute least number of steps and without any special gear. You can view any picture by clicking on it.

[Adept Zero] Instant Mold Review

Hello, Brethren of the Adeptus MWC. Zeronyne here with a detailed review of Instant Mold, the press molding compound distributed by Cool Mini Or Not.

If you've ever been to my site, you'd know that I cover products and techniques in a relatively unique way - I show my mistakes, no matter how dumb. I'm a firm believer in the philosophy that we learn much more from our mistakes than our successes. Consequently, my reviews are hubris-free. You may avoid the mistakes I made, and I guarantee that alone is worth the reading time.

This review will document my very first experience with the product. Let me say upfront that to me, it was an inarguable success. Is it worth the money and time? Let's see, shall we?

[Adept Zero] Greetings

Hello, MWC readers; Zeronyne here. Matt has graciously allowed me to join the ranks of new writers providing content to this blog. I don't know the other writers personally, but I do know that Matt has set a high bar with his posts. His tutorials are uniformly easy to understand, and his WIP shots are always fascinating. Thanks for the opportunity, Matt!
