Completed 5 Man Heirs of Horus Sternguard Squad

With all the business trips ive had recently for work, ive managed to get a bit of painting done here and there and really, all around the US with my wonderful mini modeling kit made from an old shaving kit bag. So over the next few weeks ill be posting regular updates of completed, newly named, Heirs of Horus. Including some absoultly amazing fluff writin by a very talanted writer.

Enough rambling! First up with this new series, the first 5 men of Sternguard Squad Alpha: (excuse the pics, I didnt have a light box)

Completed Heirs of Horus Land Raider

Nope, im not dead. Work has just been sucking the life out of me. I have a bit of time this morning to post some work on the newly named Heirs of Horus (tons of fluff to follow). First up, a land Raider for the Sternguard or Capt with honor guard.

MWC is also having a monthly conversion contest. This month its for 40k characters, named ones or independent ones that can be fielded on their own. There are prizes in the form of GW gift cards for the top 3 as well as a runner up prize chosen by the MWC staff. Started yesterday and ends at midnight on the 20th.

Sons of Horus Completed Bike Squad

Pics of the first Sons of Horus Bike Squad. It will be expanded to a 6 man squad in the future.

To dreadnought Army or not, that is the question.

So Folks,

I have been on the fence about making the Sons of Horus force a Dread heavy army or not. Right now the current 2k list has 3 Dreads but I'm considering upping that to 5. I'm looking for feedback for pros and cons, for and against the idea.

So far everything thats painted, based and sealed.

Completed Sons of Horus Priest

Finished the first of 3 priests. You may have seen him pictured before but now his power weapon is finished as I settled on a style and hes also based. Comments are more then welcome.

Completed Chaplain and Honor Guard

Finished the Honor Guard for the Chaplain. As with all units each has a different head and mix of armor style. For this squad I did go with the same style power plants and right skull shoulder pads. As with all elite units in the army, they have gold helmets as well. The small creature/familiar thing with the priest is a "token" for me to show the unit having furious charge. When the priest dies, the ability goes away and as such so will the little guy. I like how he looks up at the skull chalice thats spilling blood. The drill counts as a power fist and the rest of the unit is armed with 2 Inferno pistols and 4 power weapons. In game they will ride around in the Stormraven along with the CC Dread.

Sons of Horus Chaplain Completed and Based

I decided to change his Crozius to something more Chaos'y and not so Power Maul like. I also based him in a style to match the Stormraven as thats his personal transport.

Ive decided to include a 5 man honor guard with him. Should have pics of them in the next day or so.

All done. Though After seeing the pics I do need to paint the inside of the engines black lol.. Seems the primer didnt get in there..

And yup, the dread is magged on.

Ill get better pics as soon as I can as well as pics of the completed base. Its hard to make out bt the GS is slime coming out of a pipe and bubbling and flowing.. Also plan to have scattered bricks around the emtpy side of the base.

Hey, look in the sky! Its a Stormraven!

Hey Folks!

While I was opening the package from the Gobbo yesterday, I noticed something wonderful! At first I ddint notice as the raven came on sprue out of its box as I had discussed with the gobbo to save a tad bit on shipping. But then as I was packing it up for whoever wins it tomorrow, I noticed there were 2!!!!! I contacted him right away to let him know but being such a nice freakin guy, he told me he did it so I could have one as well. What a great guy!

So that can only mean one thing!

Sons of Horus Stormraven!!! I figured hey why not since I already use the BA list to play the Sons and did have plans to get one eventually. But since its here now, what they hey! Expect pics of it up tomorrow! Now to convert the crap put this bad boy.

Sons of Horus Terminator Sgt Finished

So, I ran out of Metallic Green and had to make more. Took a bit of trial and error to get it exact to my first batch as for some reason this batch of Chainmail wasn't very silvery so to speak. I didn't want to mess up any models so I dug this guy up, popped a few bitz on to finish him, mocked up a base to match the completed ones and blamo, done! And his metallic Green is spot on! Yay!


So with that, Ill go ahead and use him as a Sgt for a shooty termie squad. Ill take more pics of him when my camera (i.e. my phone lol) charges more.

Sons of Horus Sanguinary Priests ready for basing

Finished the lamp and the vials on the 1st Priest and finished the 2nd with jump pack though he needs writing on his impurity seals.

They will indeed be based like the Land Speeder and Dreadnought.

Sons of Horus Land Speeder Finished + Base

Finished the touch ups on the Land Speeder. Repainted the helmets back to match assault units. Also touched up a few other things and added a bit more weathering. Plus got some better pics of the base as well as the crew.


Still open to ideas and changes before it gets sealed.

Sons of Horus Dreadnought Finished + Base

Did a bit more work on this guy, added some studs, another impurity seal, some writing on it and the book (need to do the shin armor scroll). Also added the blood for the severed heads and finished the tentacles.



The base is done but didn't come out like i had hoped for. I didn't realize the bricks would be so low down in the dirt but in the end its not to bad. I may add more fallen bricks to give it a more 3d feel but eh, its good for gaming.

Anything I should change before sealing it?
