[The Rogue Trader] *tap tap* Is this thing on?

I'm Marcus, a.k.a. Citizensmith, the third addition to Team Awesome.  At least that's how everyone will refer to us eventually, instead of just 'them'.  I'm grateful for the opportunity to share some of what I know with the gaming world.  I'm more grateful for the opportunity to learn though.  Places like this are fantastic for shared knowledge and ideas we can all benefit from.  I've had my own blog for a while, Bladefall, but I'll be doing most of my postings here now.  My blog can just be for long winded rants and stuff not really in keeping with this blog.

A bit about me, I'm the wizened old one on the team.  I guess that means I survive to right near the end of the movie but then sacrifice myself to save the leader and the hot chick.  Except I'm not sure we have a hot chick on board yet.  I've been in the hobby a while, I was actually in line outside a South London GW store the day Rogue Trader was released.  When I went to uni I noticed there was a GW store just across from the campus that had a help wanted sign up.  There went my weekends, but the staff discount was fantastic.  Then, other things happened.  I got married, changed continents, had kids, and didn't have time or connections for gaming.  I even gave away most of my 40K stuff including a couple of Land Raiders and a few Rhinos.  Stupid.  Oh so stupid.  (sob).

But now, 15 years later, I'm back in the hobby and its all down to Yugioh and smells.  My kids had got into Yugioh, wanted to go to tournaments and a friend recommended Great Escape Games, a fantastic FLGS in Sacramento, CA.  There were a bunch of people playing 40K and shelves of models and paints.  Some kind of irresistible force started moving and before I knew it I had an IG sentinel and some paints.  Got home, cracked open the paints and was instantly (re) hooked.  The smell of Citadel paints brought back some many good memories, I really wanted to get back into this.

I've only had three full games of 5ed so far despite about 18 months back gaming.  I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys the painting more than the gaming so I wasn't going to play anything until I had a painted army.  I've got lots to learn about the game, although I'll share what I pick up for the other 40K newbies out there.

I'll close out with a picture of my first ever conversion.  Done back in '91 or '92.  A heavy weapons Rhino skimmer thing we called a Wyvren.  Except then Razorbacks started showing up so it lost it coolness.  Curse you GW.  So thank you to Matt for giving me some space on his blog, and thank all you out there for reading, I hope to provide something you'll enjoy.

  1. Welcome to the team! It would seem we're polar opposites; I'm a gamer through and through. Painting is a painful necessity for me! It's cool that we add something different to the team, though! Looking forward to working with you.
