News Flash!! Forgeworld Releases Tartaros Terminator Armor!!

Tactical Dreadnought Armour, or Terminator Armour as it is more usually known, is the most resilient form of personal protection available to the Adeptus Astartes. Originally developed during the closing years of the Great Crusade, and adapted from the heaviest of industrial gear, several types and patterns were developed concurrently.

Of these, the Indomitus pattern is perhaps the most widespread, due to its template being held on key Forge Worlds such as Mars, although Tartaros Pattern Terminator armour is also issued to the Veterans of a Chapter’s 1st Company. Perhaps the most advanced form of Tactical Dreadnought Armour, the Tartaros pattern shares many systems with the MkIV ‘Maximus’ pattern of power armour, and provides greater mobility for its wearer than the Indomitus pattern with no loss in durability or protection.

The Tartaros Pattern Terminators set, models designed by Will Hayes, is a full resin kit that comprises five Terminators, armed with power fists, a power sword, storm bolters, a heavy flamer and enough optional attachments to arm four Space Marines with chainfists.
Please note that these models are not compatible with our range of Terminator Shoulder Pads.

This detailed squad will be available to purchase in limited numbers at the Forge World Open Day on Sunday 1st April, and is also available to pre-order now for despatch from 10th April.

Breaking News!! : Chaos Decimator Daemon Engine Release

In this week’s newsletter we delve deep within the Eye of Terror to unleash a new Chaos Daemon Engine, the Decimator, which is available to pre-order now alongside two new Zone Mortalis Door Sets. We’re also now accepting reservation orders for the Forge World Open Day, and there’s still time to get your AdeptiCon reservation order to us as well.

The Decimator is a brutal and hellish creation; the essence of a creature of the Warp bound and fettered within the armoured bulk of a bipedal war machine. Great slab-shoulders of tainted and defiled ceramite and adamantium, and a low-set ‘head’ give the Decimator a characteristic hunched posture which exudes brooding and vicious menace.
Inquisitorial savants do not know for sure what malefic party is responsible for this sinful innovation as the Decimator is capable of fielding a wide range of armament: rapid-firing Butcher Cannons, multi-barrelled Stormlasers, and great raking Siege Claws to name but a few. Towering over even the mighty Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts of the Adeptus Astartes, the Decimator is believed to be an attempt to bolster the ranks of such ancient devices that still serve the Traitor Legions. If this is the truth, then it is feared that many warriors of the Imperium will fall before these deadly war machines.
The Decimator Daemon Engine, model designed by Daren Parrwood and Edgar Skomorowski, is an incredibly detailed full resin kit that stands roughly 4" (102mm) tall. Weapons for this fell war machine are sold separately. This kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Monday 2nd April, and you can also download experimental rules for the Decimator from the Forge World website.

[News Flash] Games Day 2011 - Down under!

Gotthammer from BoLs Lounge posted this excellent write up of GD Australia on this blog. I'd post it all here but I've not asked his permission, so here are some highlights:

Quote The Q&A was well populated and fairly interesting. Some points of note:

- In regards to new races they asked "raise your hand if you feel your army is laggin behind in attention?" and used the fair number of hands to illustrate the more pressing need to update the current crop of Codexes first.

- Adam did go on to mention Necrons and Dark Angels as two in need of help, but it didn't sound particularly to indicate any info on forthcoming releases.

- Phil commented he would change the Court of the Archon and Dias of Destruction if he could in Codex Dark Eldar. The Court was at one point planned for a boxed set so you'd have to buy one of each so it made sense to have it that way. The Dias was a last minute job, and needed more tweaking.
He also mentioned changing the Decapitator and making some units better and some worse, but no specifics on why.

- In regards to supplements like Cities of Death and Planetstrike they said the designers used tose as a change of pace or a reward "like desert", and they wanted to do more.

- This led into a discussion about global campaigns. They are limited as they can't have huge ones that change the universe as the results might mess up the story - Adam specifically mentioned that the results for Medusa V were not what they expected. The questioner brought up that it helps get gamers involved in the universe by having a shared goal. They did ask who would be interested and got a strong positve response.

- There was talk about the design process and how ideas come about. Phil said they are trying to change the process from "you will design this" coming from above to a constant stream of pitching ideas and having a more free-flowing creativity.
They have a giant whiteboard where the studio just put up ideas for anything and get feedback and response on it. Assignments are generally given to the most eager studio member as they'll put the most work in, "and lots of unpaid overtime". There is however competition, including knife fights in the carpark, for some jobs so they painted the studio as very free-flowing.

- Someone asked about FAQs, and the reply indicated there's an assistant designer who is chiefly responsible for them all.

- On playtesting, Adam used the example that for High Elves he personally played 40 games, recording the results, as well as other studio members, White Dwarf guys, "their external playtesting group", and other in-house team members.
There was no fixed amount done though, and it is an elastic amount.

- When asked what they thought on balance, the reply was having a tough but fun game where it could have gone either way at any point. They did acknowledge that they sometimes screwed up, and that they all find it terribly embarrasing.

- A question was asked about release schedules, with Dark Eldar getting more models while some armies are still waiting (this got a chorus of "Tyranids!" from the audience). The reply was that they were changing to try and do a single major release for as much as possible with only some Special Characters being delayed as they can be troublesome to get right.
Ogre Kingdoms was used as the example of this.

- Phil then went on to talk about how they won't be re-treading Forge World, and the Mournfang are distinct creatures from the Rhinox riders. Forge World is there to flesh out the fringes and add depth was they way it was put, and they do their own thing.

- Jervis reads every letter he gets sent, and tells everyone in the studio about them. Adam did a Jervis impersonation for effect.
And
Quote He further elaborated that they won't be discarding and races, as they learnt from their mistake with Squats (and he did specifically call it a mistake) and that they realise now that "they can't pretend like things didn't exist".
Go read the rest, it's very good. Sounds like GD Australia may have been better than GD UK. So add that to the list along with cricket.

[News Flash] Out of Left Field: Citadel Finecast Experiment Over?

Out of Left Field: Citadel Finecast Experiment Over.

Finecast production to be limited or stopped completely. This morning's rumors declares Citadel Finecast an experiment that is coming to a close.

Rumors Out of Left Field are really rumors that I do not think are going to come around. I find quite a bit of information and some of it gets disqualified almost immediately. I've decided to start sharing some of these. Can they be real?, of course. There is just something about them that makes me feel uncomfortable about posting them. Sometimes its just the source, or how the source released the information, sometimes its the information itself.

Please apply extra salt

via TywinLannister
I don't know how reliable GW staffers are, but one has strong feelings that fine cast will be no more in a few months, something about a lack of return, and better plastic casts, apparently the new approach is to focus on the plastic blisters and to slowly but surely stop producing finecast or reserve it for truly exceptional minis.

MWC August Conversion Contest: Vehicles - Voting now open!

Its once again that time folks! This month we have made some slight changes, there are fewer entries but quality is all top notch and most of all, we have learned how to stream line the contests.

Most of all, each person will get 2 votes, 1 for each group. The first is for followers of the blog, they are the ones that can truly have a chance to win. The second is for the staff. While the staff cant win any prizes, we still like to know what you guys think! So be sure to make a vote on both polls located to the right.

Now onto the entries with commentary from the contestants!

Entry #1 - Valkyrie

Here is my Valkyrie for your Vehicle Conversion Contest.

My main idea was to make a flyer that would have a shadow that looked like the Inquisitorial seal.
The front is actually two Baneblade turrets and the front window is from the crashed Aquila Lander.

Entry #2 - Land Raider Crusader

I based my Land Raider Crusader on the Forge World Malcados, since it is one of the coolest looking tanks ever made and I wanted to use it in regular 40k.

I made it wider with parts from a Baneblade and used the regular Land Raider's assault ramp in the front.
The glass cuppola from the immolator kit is one of my favorite conversion bits and many of my Inquisitorial vehicles use it.

Entry #3 - Imperial Guard Chimera

My entry for August Conversion Contest is an Aliens themed Imperial Guard Chimera.
I built it from plastic sheet and various Imperial Gaurd and Space Marine bits.
No detailed plans where used other than pictures from the web and a 3 side line drawing printed out to gauge the final size.
The driver is a Valkyrie pilot and his gear shift knob is the skull cane from an IG commander.
Driver's door is a cut down Land raider side door turned sideways and hinged.
Side door is a Rhino back door made to slide sideways.
Front turret is made from Rhino hatch bits.
Top turret is made from Sentinel Multi-lasers, Valkyrie sensors, Manticore radar dish and other misc parts from my bits box.
The wheels are R/C car wheels with hubs made from 25mm bases and symbols from the Valkyrie,
The troop compartment interior is comprised of computer screens from Rhino and land raiders, las-pistols, lasguns, gas cans and an engine cover made out of the base from the Aegis Defense Line quad-gun emplacement.
The floor is from a Chimera kit.
The rest is all plastic sheet, tube and shapes.
I started this mid July and I have no idea how many hours I put into building this but it was a lot (The next one I make will be better planed before the build starts).  I am extremely happy with how this turned out.
I accidentally primer-ed it before I got a picture with the website ( Got ahead of myself as I am trying to get it painted to use on the 27th of August)

Entry #4 - Predator Angrinator

For this Predator Angrinator, I used a Whirlwind boxed set, plus a few
Space Marine upper bodies and extra Whirlwind launchers for the side
sponsons. The only greenstuffing I did was on the shoulder pauldrons
after figuring out that chopping off arms was not economical, the
magnets to the Marines (all Angry Marines in the launchers are
magnetized so we can see if it's shot its load or not), and on one
Whirlwind pod when I got too carried away with the cutters. ;^_^
Everything else is glued on.
Entry #5 - Leman Russ Exterminator, Ragnarok Pattern

Model:  Leman Russ Exterminator, Ragnarok Pattern
Details:  I double tracked a Chimera Hull, and mated it with Leman Russ upper hull.  Main gun built from IG autocannons, Sponsons use  Baneblade hull turret Heavy Bolters and the large wheels from the old chimera kit,  Turret built from a Leman Russ turret, Baneblade armor plates and platicard.  Chimera lower chassis plates, various Leman Russ and Chimera hatches. were added to build up the rest of the chassis.

The Golgotha featured on Dave taylors Blog! Now with datasheet!!

Taken direct from Daves Blog:

The Golgotha!

Early on in the Heroes of Armageddon project I knew that I wanted to have a couple of surprises that I could "pull out of my hat" towards the end of the donation period. A little something that would show everyone that we were serious about creating unique armies. One of the surprises I concocted for the Steel Legion army was the mighty Golgotha Superheavy Missile-Platform.

Following a discussion with Matt Bonder from Miniature Wargame Conversions, I knew I had someone who could create my vision in miniature form. Matt pulled together the necessary funds and bought the Baneblade and Reaver Missile Launcher required to put this bad boy together. Although there were a few hiccups along the way, Matt sent the finished tank off to Brandon Palmer of GMM Studios, who put the great paintjob on the tank as only he can do, swiftly, but with a lot of gorgeous detailing.

A big THANK YOU to both these guys for their contributions!

In my mind, a massive artillery piece like this would certainly need an observation post, a spotter of some kind. In stepped Jeremy Webb, who bought this Elysian Tauros Venator for the job. Jeremy shipped it off to Jeff Wilhelm (of Dragon Forge fame) who started on the assembly and paint job. As the deadline drew closer and Jeff's real life workload grew, he passed it back to me to wrap things up. In a collaborative project like HOA, it is vitally important that communication is regular and that expectations are met. In this case Jeff kept me appraised of his situation and we worked out a plan B before things got too late. Success!

Another big THANK YOU to both Jeremy and Jeff!

And finally, nothing this big would be complete without an Apocalypse datasheet from the master of Apoc datasheets, Larry Vela! (or Bigred from Bell of Lost Souls). I laid out my thoughts on the possible rules, then Larry went to town creating a very cool set of rules. You can download the datasheet from HERE.

THANK YOU Larry, for all your work on this too.

So, there you have it. A great part of the HOA project, and a cool datasheet to go with it. You now have all you need to make your own right? I know I'll be adding one to my Blood Pact army ; )

Cheers
Dave

Sisters of Battle Rules Leak - Finally in next months WD!

Straight from Blood of Kittens: http://bloodofkittens.com/network/groups/grey-knight-rumors/

Sisters of Battle
Army Special Rules

The Acts of Faith system

At the start of your Movement phases you generate D6 Faith Points. Any Faith Points that are unused at the end of YOUR turn are lost.

Tests of Faith

An Act of Faith can be attempted immediately before a Sisters of Battle unit acts during a phase; e.g. before the unit Moves, Shoots (or runs) or Assaults.
Each attempt costs 1 Faith Point, if test if failed the point is lost.

To attempt an Act of Faith, select the unit and reduce your Faith Points by 1, then roll a D6 and add the following:
+1 if the unit is led by a Superior (Sister, Celestian, Dominion or Seraphim) or Mistress of Repentance.
+1 if the unit has been joined by a Canoness, Confessor, Saint Celestine, Uriah Jacobus or Arch-Confessor Kyrinov
+1 if the unit has taken at least 1 casualty
All modifiers are cumulative (so with 1 IC in a unit with a Superior that has taken at least 1 casualty only needs a 2+ to be successful)
If the total is equal to or greater than 5 the Act of Faith is successful, the unit immediately gains a bonus and/or special rules until the end of the phase.

Independent Characters and Acts of Faith

IC that have the Acts of Faith rule benefit from any bonuses received by the unit they are with when an Act of Faith is used, likewise the unit receives any bonuses from the ICs Acts of Faith when they are successful. Note you still have to perform 2 different Tests of Faith if you want to use both the ICs and the units Act of Faith.

Shield of Faith
Models with the Shield of Faith special rule have a 6+ invulnerable save.

Special Characters

Saint Celestine
7/7/3/3/3/7/5/10/2+ 4++
Special Rules: Acts of Faith, IC, Fearless, Shield of Faith

If she would be within 1” of another model (friend and foe?) move her the minimum distance possible so she is not within 1”. She can act normally in a turn in which she resurrects. She does not award a kill point if she is alive on the battlefield at the end of the game.

Wargear: Frag, krak, jump pack
Armour of Saint Katherine: Confers a 2+ armour save and 4++ invulnerable save
The Ardent Blade: Power weapon that always wounds on 4+ (unless a lower roll is required). Can also be fired like a Heavy Flamer (Template: S5 AP4 Assault1)

Arch-Confessor Kyrinov
