July's Conversion Contest!

Here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. Our first of many monthly conversion contests, each with a different theme that we choose based on how we feel that day.

This month's theme is pretty simple:

Warhammer 40k Independent Character
  • Models entered must be visibly understood to be from 40K universe and identifiable as the character they're representing. Add-ons, bits, pieces and accessories from other lines/worlds will be permitted provided ~90% or more of model is of the 40K world. (This percentage will be decided upon entry by the MWC team.)
  • Models entered must be unpainted so that the conversion work can clearly be seen. Remember, at least one picture must be taken with the MWC page in the background so that we know its a current conversion. Yes, its ok if you started the conversion before today, as long as its not painted.
  • Models entered must be an Independent Character or Special Named Character. As an example, Mephiston of the Blood Angels does not have the Independent Character Special Rule, but is still a Special Named Character and is therefor a valid entry.

For additional rules and information used in every month's contest click here or on the banner at the top of the page. The contest begins today and ends at 11:59PM (US)CST on the 20th of this month.

Ready... Set... Convert!

EDIT
Voting has now opened! Check out this post here for the entries and select your favorite to the right!

  1. Do you guys want to see painted pictures as well as unpainted pictures?
    Or just unpainted pictures only.

  2. Interesting! I've been kicking around working on some of the characters for my Heresy-Era Thousand Sons, this may be just the impetus needed to get started on either Assault Captain Besenmut or good ol' Azhek Ahriman!

  3. Damn, I literally just finished converting up a special character but already started painting him =/ Good luck to everyone though.

  4. Would it be wrong to submit my recently completed (but not painted) logan for consideration?

I can obviously take a pic with the right background, but he is primed....

  5. All of the main rules can be found on the link in this post and should answer these questions.

But to clarify, you can most certainly use previously made models, so long as it follows all of the rules described on the original post and the current month's post.

  6. Due to a lot of requests on primed models, if you email the MWC staff at miniaturewargameco@gmail.com with a picture of your conversion it may be ok to enter it. The main reason for unprimed and unpainted is simply to see the conversion work. That said there are many conversions where even primed, we can see how much conversion work went into it.

  8. Quick question, can the model be a kit bash? As I'm going to be building a pre heresy special character.

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Warflake - What do you mean kit bash? A conversion with GW parts or one with alot of other company parts?

    ReplyDelete
  10. One with mostly GW/FW parts. i'm using an Emperors Champion as a basis.

  11. You say "Independent Characters or Special Named Characters". Would it therefore be valid to enter a conversion of a normal Space Marine Librarian, or a Dark Eldar Haemonculus, etc.? So, non-named 40k characters?

  12. @Warflake - Yup thats a perfect example of a conversion.

@yannkiki - Yup, as long as its a special character OR any unit that says its an independent character is good to go.

  16. So you are saying I can't enter my custom Penitant Engine? Damn yous!

  17. Just came across this, will a primed, kit bash (all GW stuff) be acceptable?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Would it be possible to show WIP pictures of the model in some kind of internet forum to get feedback and make improvements, or would that make said model unsuitable for the competition?

    ReplyDelete
  19. @speedfreek -Sweet! Cant wait to see what you enter!

@Fuzzbuket - Ooooo that sounds like a sweet libby! Id love to see those dragonforge ammo belts in action!

@tim - Yes you can. It is ok because game wise they could count as any character really, named or not.

@Aaron Lococo - Techincally you can. If you say its a counts as Bjorn or that insquis character on throne. Loop holes ;P

@Vitor - Yep, primed is ok as long as its still clear to see the conversion itself.

@yannkiki - Yup, you can show off the pics anywhere youd like before subitting them as long as they have the MWC logo in at least one of the pictures with it.

  21. You write the deadline is on Tuesday, 23:59. But in what timezone are you? As I'm in Japan, I'm not quite sure what time the deadline becomes for me, you know. ;)

  22. Okay, I'm sorry. You had written it in the opening post. Nevermind, no need to clear this or the last comment.

You're in North American CST time, so in relation to my position in Osaka, Japan, I'm 15 hours ahead of you. Alright, sorry to have bothered you.

  23. What about greenstuffing? Does it count as 90% in the 40k universe if I almost fully greenstuffed a priest with an eviscerator - with only the eviscerator being made of gw parts ?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Do we send our entries to MiniatureWargameCo@gmail.com?

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ DimmyK - GS is ok, as the judges can change the 90% as long as it fits the theme.

    @ javoltota - yup.
